The Weakfish (grey trout) bite around Oregon inlet has been and continues to be strong. The fish are averaging around 14 inches with some up to 18 inches. They readily take cut baits, live baits, and artificial baits. They hit hard and fight strong. The only thing weak about this fish is its lips—hence the name.

Weakfish are tightly regulated by the fisheries commissions and the bag limit is one fish per day with a minimum length of 12 inches. We have been keeping our one fish apiece and then catching and releasing approximately 10 – 20 more. I don’t know how long it will last but it is on fire right now.

As you will see below, the Striped bass (rockfish) fishing is good too.
