Inshore Fishing Report

What a nice day on the water—finally no wind!

Today's OBX soundside kid's fishing trip with Christa, Dave, Anthony, and Ben was a tremendous success. Anthony caught a croaker on the first drop and it just got better after that. Those guys rallied and I could not keep up at the bait station for quite a while.

Later, Dave got a bite and the drag started screaming. I cleared the other lines and the fight was on. After a great battle, we brought a Cownose ray boat side that weighed at least 40 pounds if it was an ounce. After a thorough soaking from flapping wings, we released the ray and it gracefully swam away. We hooked up with two more of those beasts but never had control over them. They both got away after blazing runs. I love seeing people catch rays. Ben hooked up to a smaller Atlantic stingray and brought it to the boat where we studied it before letting it swim away as well.

It was a brutally hot day so I beached the boat and the kids did a little hermit crabbing and swimming. We also threw out a crab line and were able to catch several crabs in the shallows. On the way back to the boat ramp, we enjoyed a good showing of dolphins. It was a really fun trip filled with entertainment!
